Over ten years ago I was hired on my first case as a criminal defense lawyer. My client was charged with a very serious felony - aggravated sexual assault of a child. Two different doctors evaluated my client and found him incompetent to stand trial. He was released on bond and ordered to comply with several conditions set by the judge, including regular reporting to a pre-trial supervision officer.

For over a decade we fought and waited while the prosecutors had the ball in their court. For over a decade, my client has diligently complied with the conditions of his bond and has not been in any additional trouble with the law. Finally, last week the prosecutor dismissed the case in the interest of justice. As a result, my client will not have to register as a sex offender and will not be civilly committed to a mental health facility. Although it has been a lengthy, arduous journey for him, he has finally seen justice prevail.

Over the years, I've learned that every case is unique. It doesn't matter how long or difficult the process, the attorneys at the Law Office of Laurie Key will stand by our clients and fight to the end for the best possible outcome.
