TCDLA 2016 Declaration of Independence Readings

On Friday, July 1, 2016, the Law Office of Laurie Key joined with criminal defense attorneys across the State of Texas in reading the United States of America Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights in the county seat of every county in the State. The effort was coordinated by the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and our portion was conducted in collaboration with the Lubbock Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.

Over ten years ago I was hired on my first case as a criminal defense lawyer. My client was charged with a very serious felony - aggravated sexual assault of a child. Two different doctors evaluated my client and found him incompetent to stand trial. He was released on bond and ordered to comply with several conditions set by the judge, including regular reporting to a pre-trial supervision officer...
